Belt and Road Initiative
China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) continues to evolve and offer opportunities for nations, communities and businesses. But it is not without controversy in areas such as environmental protection and international debt.As a leader in many Belt and Road sectors, CMS has polled and interviewed over 500 BRI participants around the world, about their current thinking on BRI and the prospects they see for it. This series of reports analyses sentiment around the world, considers what BRI means for each region, shines a spotlight on different nations and highlights legal considerations.  You can access the full series of regional reports below.16%medium16%medium16%medium16%medium16%medium16%medium

BRI - View from CEE
China’s Belt and Road initiative has the potential to help nations across Central and Eastern Europe meet their diverse and growing infrastructure needs. Nearly every country in the region has signed a Belt and Road agreement with China, and most are on the trade routes that China plans to enhance. But after initial optimism the region has lagged behind others in developing Belt and Road projects, with various political, economic and operational issues slowing progress. The latest in a series of Belt and Road reports from CMS examines the sentiment in the region towards BRI, the challenges that exist, and the steps Belt and Road participants can take to achieve success. http://view.ceros.com/cms-embed/bri-cee-sector-highlights/p/1750560leftfalseTopics covered in the report include:Belt and Road 2.0 – a more sustainable approach to developmentThe sectors attracting most interest among Belt and Road participantsThe effects of Covid-19 on Belt and RoadMitigating Belt and Road risk and managing disputesAs well as looking at Belt and Road across CEE, we examine at its impact to date in Ukraine and Russia, and their potential for future investment.

BRI - View from China
The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) continues to evolve. Its participants are increasingly looking to meet the trends of the future. Affordable projects, embracing modern technologies and methods, as well the “open, green and clean” approach of BRI 2.0, will often be those that stand the greatest chance of success – a point underlined by China’s recently announced target for carbon neutrality and President Xi Jinping’s call for a green recovery of the world economy. But how are the unprecedented difficulties of 2020, including the global pandemic and trade disputes, affecting the prospects of BRI?Welcome to the first of a series of reports that assess the challenges for BRI and the steps that BRI participants can take to achieve both success for themselves and a positive future for BRI. This report is intended primarily for a Chinese readership and is therefore available in both English and Chinese. The report examines:Why Chinese participants in BRI are more generally positive about it than non-Chinese participants, and how this may be resolved. The effects of Covid-19 on BRI, and new enthusiasm for the Health Silk Road. How to mitigate BRI risk and manage disputes.Potential trends in the financing of BRI projects. The impact of BRI 2.0.
