Irina Shurmina is a Counsel heading the new practice group Digital Law.

Prior to joining our team in 2020, Irina was working at other major international law firms in Russia and in Germany for over eight years. 

Irina focuses on identifying and mitigating risks related to digital products, advising clients on e-commerce issues, data protection, software-related matters, advertising regulation, IP protection, including on Internet, and other IP/TMT challenges.

She is active in advising clients on launch of new tech products on the Russian market, complex IP/IT due diligence, compliance with the advertising law, registration and protection of IP rights. 

She is also involved in supporting court litigations on IP/IT as well as disputes on advertising and unfair competition at the Federal Antimonopoly Service.

Irina also advises Russian and foreign clients on data protection and conducts audits to check compliance by companies with the Russian legislation and European laws on personal data (GDPR). She is a co-author and co-host of the podcast on privacy "Не для галочки”.

Irina is heading IP/IT track of Higher School of Economics’ master program on Digital Law. Irina is a co-author of Advertising Law educational courses and also an organiser of our First Advertising Law Conference. 

Irina is also dealing with LegalTech products development being head of Innovation Group.

  • Russian technological company providing Wi-Fi connection – representing client’s interests in major patent litigation in Moscow court, where the client is a defendant.
  • Reckitt Benckiser – consulting major international FMCG company on IP, advertising and unfair competition issues, providing day-to-day advice.
  • One of the largest cloud and technology companies – advising the client on regulatory and competition law aspects related to import substitution.
  • Video games manufacturer – advising on all Russian IP and regulatory aspects of its acquisition of a digital art marketplace.
  • IT start-up working with Big Data – representing the client’s interests in the precedent court litigation against the major Russian social network on database right and use of open information available on Internet.
  • Japanese companies and law firms – consulting various Japanese businesses on data protection regulation, IP issues and Internet-related aspects. 
  • Popular Russian online-classified – representing the client’s interests in the litigation on unfair competition related to competitor’s copying of the client’s posts.
  • Major pharmaceutical company – advising on the preferred structuring options regarding software licenses in Russia.
  • Major online shop for luxury brands – conducting a complex data protection audit and advising on compliance with the Russian legislation, in particular, while collecting customers’ data online, localisation requirement, marketing activities.
  • Recommendations on pharmaceutical advertising – a year-long project of developing the Recommendations on advertising of OTC medicine together with the major pharmaceutical companies and Federal Antimonopoly Service.
