Russia’s Ministry of the Interior to oversee migration issues

04/2016

The functions of the Federal Migration Service (the "FMS") have been transferred to the Ministry of the Interior. The move followed a decree signed by the Russian President on 5 April 2016 (here in Russian). The decree dissolved the FMS and provided for the creation of a special department in the Ministry of the Interior that will now oversee migration issues in the country.

The changes may lead to delays in issuing migration documents to companies’ foreign employees.

Therefore, we recommend that our clients make plans to obtain or renew migration documents for their foreign employees well in advance.
