On February 17, following lengthy negotiations between Russia and the UAE, an Agreement on the Elimination of Double Taxation (the “Agreement”) was signed. The document will facilitate and intensify further economic cooperation between the states and their residents.
It should be reminded that the previous agreement between the countries had a smaller scope of application and concerned a limited number of transactions between certain economic actors. The absence of taxation rules for cross-border transactions and conditions to eliminate double taxation for a wide range of persons significantly hampered their cooperation.
The Agreement comes into effect on 1 January 2026, pending the completion of all necessary ratification procedures.
More information about the main provisions of the Agreement can be found here.
