The United Arab Emirates has established the General Commercial Gambling Regulatory Authority (GCGRA), which will be led by eminent industry specialists with years of experience in the gambling sector.
GCGRA’s primary objective is to foster a socially responsible and well-regulated gaming environment, ensuring strict adherence to guidelines and the highest standards by all participants. The authority will oversee regulatory activities, manage national licensing, and responsibly unlock the economic potential of the commercial gaming sector.
The establishment of the General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA) in the United Arab Emirates marks a significant milestone in the nation’s efforts to implement a world-class regulatory system for its national lottery and commercial gaming sectors.
As per the current legislation, gambling is currently prohibited in the UAE with some exceptions, e.g. Mahzooz lottery.
Thus, the UAE could become the first Gulf state to allow casinos and gambling in the country. Previously, the government has already implemented a number of liberal reforms in order to maintain its advantages as a trade, tourism and financial centre.
Our UAE team will keep you informed on further developments of the legislation and arising opportunities for businesses.
